Olive Ridley Project (ORP) has officially opened the Sea Turtle Health Institute (STHI) at Jawakara Island Maldives in Lhaviyani Atoll, marking a significant milestone for sea turtle conservation in the Indian Ocean.

While we celebrate the downlisting of green sea turtles from ‘Endangered’ to ‘Least Concern’ on the global IUCN Red List, we also recognise that significant conservation challenges remain, particularly in the Indian Ocean, where green turtle populations are still classified as Vulnerable.

Since June 2024, ORP and Tunisia’s Association Kraten du Développement Durable (AKDDCL) have teamed up to monitor sea turtles in the Gulf of Gabès. This cross-ocean partnership merges expertise and resources to enhance sea turtle conservation around the Kerkennah Islands.

Sea Turtles Stories, a podcast from Olive Ridley Project, launches on 16th June 2024. The series delves into the world of sea turtles, featuring lively conversations with experts who offer insights into various aspects of sea turtles’ life cycle and conservation practices.

Maldives Underwater Initiative (MUI) is a partnership of NGOs and Six Senses Laamu Resort consolidating our research, science communication and community outreach work to conserve marine life in Laamu Atoll. ORP and MUI aim to make Laamu Atoll a safer place for sea turtles.
