Sea Turtle Stories : A podcast on all things sea turtles by Olive Ridley Project

From their ancient origins to their present-day status as conservation icons, sea turtles have traversed oceans, forged connections with diverse ecosystems, and captured human imagination across cultures and generations.

Yet, despite their long and famed history, how much do we truly understand about sea turtles and the conservation culture they inspire?

Sea Turtle Stories, a podcast by the Olive Ridley Project attempts to answer this question. This engaging series delves into the world of sea turtles, featuring lively conversations with experts who offer insights into various aspects of sea turtles’ life cycle and conservation practices.

Over eight episodes, the series explores a wide array of topics, from the lost years of hatchlings, the often-overlooked ecology of male sea turtles, to best practices in hatchery management and bycatch prevention.

The inaugural episode premiers on 16th June, World Sea Turtle Day, featuring Dr Martin Stelfox, the founder and CEO of Olive Ridley Project, in conversation with the host Dr Minnie Liddell, a sea turtle veterinary surgeon. In this episode, Martin sets the stage by diving into the fascinating evolutionary history of sea turtles, their complex roles in the marine ecosystem, the threats they face and these challenges spurred the birth of the Olive Ridley Project. Interestingly, Martin also discusses the innovative potential of AI in sea turtle rehabilitative care – a fascinating topic for those interested in the technology.

Subsequent episodes will feature prominent names in sea turtle conservation, including Dr Jeanne Mortimer, Dr Andrea Phillot and Dr Joanna Alfaro.

Martin expresses his enthusiasm for the new series, stating: “We are incredibly proud of our Sea Turtle Stories podcast, which has been over a year in the making. This platform enables us to connect with the sea turtle community and anyone interested in these prehistoric creatures, enhancing our understanding of how to protect them and identifying the challenges we face along the way”.

With many sea turtle populations around the world experiencing a decline in their numbers and destruction of their ocean habitats, this podcast aims to deepen the audience’s understanding of the lives of these incredible creatures.

“Sea Turtle Stories” is available on popular platforms such as Apple Podcast, Amazon Music and Spotify, with new episodes releasing twice a month. Whether you are a seasoned conservationist, a curious listener, or simply passionate about sea turtles, this podcast promises something for everyone. Tune in now!
