Sea turtles inhabit all the oceans of the world except the Arctic, and have a broad range of habitats and diets. Each species has uniquely evolved to different environments and available food. Some are nomadic marathon swimmers and others call coral reefs their home. There are seven species of sea turtles found globally. So, who eats what and what does a sea turtle diet consist of?
Dr. Claire Lomas created Vaavoshi Turtle Festival to bring together the islands and communities in Baa Atoll with environmentalists and visitors from around Maldives to raise awareness of sea turtle conservation and celebrate our beautiful ocean. Vaavoshi 2019 is the first turtle festival ever in Baa Atoll. Sadly, it was also Dr. Claire’s farwell to Maldives.
We had a very special arrival recently, an incredibly rare white sea turtle. Cloud is a green sea turtle with a genetic condition called Leucism. Leucism is a condition where animals have reduced pigmentation, but different from albinism, as albino animals have a complete loss of pigmentation.
