Episode Transcript
Dr Minnie Liddell: Known by many names around the globe – torti de mer, honu, vela, kachwa, kasa – Sea Turtles are one of the most ancient species of our world. They’ve witnessed human civilisations rise and fall, inspired ocean deities across cultures, and baffled scientists with their extraordinary lives.
The surf breaks and a creature older than time lumbers out of the water, heaving its domed body onto the sandy beach. Slow yet measured, it approaches a spot and begins a ritualistic digging. The sand yields and the creature passes life into the earth. Pearlescent eggs, precious and fragile, fill the nest. Moonlit waves beckon and the creature returns to the ocean, vanishing into the enigmatic abyss. Where do they journey to? How do they find their way back?
In a quest to uncover the mysterious lives of these remarkable sea creatures, we at Olive Ridley Project present to you our podcast series on sea turtle stories. Join us as we dive into conversations with sea turtle enthusiasts from across the world, unraveling the complexities of sea turtle science, culture, and conservation.
