Mohamed Shakir, affectionately known as Shark, is a talented Maldivian artist with six years of experience in the country’s tourism industry.
Born and raised in the Maldives with family roots in Haa Alifu Atoll, Shark’s strong connection to the islands has given him a deep appreciation for the Maldivian culture, traditions, and natural environment.
Currently working as a Tour Leader with Secret Paradise Maldives – a mission driven tourism company that specialises in sustainable and culturally immersive travel – Shark combines his creative talents with a passion for storytelling. Through his work, he helps guests connect with the Maldives beyond its idyllic beaches, sharing insights into island life, local communities, and the rich marine ecosystems that make the country so special.
A passionate advocate for conservation and responsible tourism, Shark leads sea turtle conservation cruises in collaboration with the Olive Ridley Project, helping raise awareness about the challenges facing marine ecosystems and the importance of protecting them. He has also supported several ORP community initiatives, including the Vaavoshi Festival, and recently volunteered at ORP’s Marine Turtle Rescue Centre.
As ORP’s Sea Turtle Ambassador, Shark hopes to educate and inspire tourism operators and guests alike to practice responsible sea turtle tourism and play a more active role in protecting the oceans.
