Dr. Michelle, Associate Veterinary Surgeon

Born and raised in Nairobi, Kenya, Michelle Chepng’eno Rop discovered her passion for animals early in life, inspired by countless amusing and heartfelt childhood encounters.

This love for animals led her to pursue a career in veterinary medicine, culminating in a Bachelor of Veterinary Medicine from the University of Nairobi.

During her five years at vet school, Michelle honed her skills in clinical medicine, surgery, and preventive care. She gained hands-on experience with a diverse range of species through
internships and volunteer work, including a memorable stint with the Kenya Wildlife Service.

Although her early experiences revolved around terrestrial wildlife, Michelle developed a keen interest in marine wildlife conservation, inspired by the limited veterinary attention given to
marine species in Kenya.

After graduating, Michelle began her journey as a veterinarian at a small animal clinic, gaining valuable experience before transitioning to wildlife medicine.

Her passion for marine life and determination to make a difference in marine conservation brought her to the Olive Ridley
Project in December 2024.

Based at the Marine Turtle Rescue Centre in Coco Palm Dhuni Kholu, Baa Atoll, Dr Michelle works as an Associate veterinary surgeon, contributing to the care and rehabilitation of injured and stranded sea turtles.

When she’s not working, Michelle loves spending time in and around the water, exploring the ocean and making new “friends”—both human and animal.
