Kelvin Sifa, born in Kenya’s North Coast, developed a deep love for the ocean through the influence of his environmental conservationist of a father.

Shaped by this early exposure to the world of conservation, Kelvin pursued a degree in Fisheries and Aquatic Sciences at Masinde Muliro University of Science and Technology in Kakamega, Kenya and graduated in 2021.

Since then, Kelvin has served as a Junior Fisheries Officer in Lamu County, Project Assistant at Lamu Art Project to promote conservation through art, and worked with the Go Blue Project as a Fisheries Officer, advancing sustainable coastal and marine resource management in Kilifi County through marine education and awareness campaigns.

His journey in sea turtle conservation began in 2024 when he joined the Olive Ridley Project – Kenya as a Sea Turtle Monitoring and Conservation Intern. He acquired practical experience in sea turtle monitoring and population research as well as community engagement, and applied conservation. During his internship period, he led a successful pilot education programme in two local schools, that aimed to foster early community stewardship in sea turtle conservation.

In 2026, our Kenya team launched their first sea turtle nesting programme, taking over the operations and management of the successful, community-driven Jumba Turtle Patrol nest monitoring initiative in Mtwapa.

As our sea turtle biologist, Kelvin leads and coordinates the Jumba Turtle Patrol efforts on the ground.
