Ali Zayan, Maavah Conservation Officer

Ali Zayan was born and raised on the island of L. Maavah in the Maldives, where being surrounded by the ocean fostered a deep appreciation for marine life and the natural environment.

His passion for conservation was shaped through his close connection to the sea and strengthened during his years as a scout, where he developed values of leadership, responsibility, and community service.

Zayan studied at the Maldives National University, where he completed an Advanced Certificate in Hospitality and Tourism. During his studies, he began his career in the hospitality industry through resort internships, gaining valuable hands-on experience.

Before joining Olive Ridley Project, Zayan worked as an HR & Training Officer in the hospitality industry. In this role, he supported environmental awareness initiatives in collaboration with conservation organisations, including the Manta Trust, as well as local community councils. These experiences inspired him to pursue a long-term career dedicated to protecting the marine environment.

Driven by the belief that meaningful environmental change begins at the community level, Zayan joined the Olive Ridley Project as the Maavah Conservation Officer in June 2026.

In this role, he works closely with local communities, schools, and stakeholders to promote sea turtle conservation and environmental awareness through outreach activities, educational programmes, surveys, and community initiatives that encourage sustainable practices.

Along with his professional work at ORP, Zayan is continuing to pursue his higher education through a Bachelor’s Degree in Human Resource Management at Zikura International College.

Passionate about environmental education, sustainable tourism, and community development, Zayaan aims to inspire future generations to become environmental stewards and contribute to a cleaner and healthier Maldives.
