Associate Veterinary Surgeon
Celena grew up on the west coast of Canada, where the mountains, ocean, and rich wildlife nurtured an early passion for nature.
She later moved to Los Angeles to pursue a Bachelor of Science in Chemistry and Molecular, Cell, and Developmental Biology at the University of California. During her time there, she volunteered at a local wildlife centre which deepened her appreciation for conservation.
Her love for travel then took her to Melbourne, Australia, where she earned her veterinary degree and began practicing medicine with a team caring for both companion animals and wildlife.
It was during this time that Celena adopted her cat, who continues to accompany her on adventures around the world.
After working in Australia, Taiwan, and Canada, Celena joined Olive Ridley Project in September 2025, as the Associate Veterinary Surgeon at our Marine Turtle Rescue Centre in Baa Atoll, Maldives.
Working alongside the Rescue Centre team, Celena responds to sea turtle emergencies, cares for injured sea turtles, practices conservation medicine and conducts marine conservation outreach for visitors at the Rescue Centre.
When there’s any time to spare, she can be found in the water snorkelling or scuba diving, and soaking in the beauty of island life in her new home.
