Meet Calypso, Another Olive Ridley Ghost Net Victim

Calypso, an adult female olive ridley turtle, was found entangled in a ghost net by Constance Moofushi resort in South Ari Atoll. She had to take two sea planes to reach the Rescue Centre.

Intake Date: 28th January 2019
Length: 67 cm
Weight: 31.5 kg
Status: Released 27th February 2019

Calypso has been adopted by Neil Burgess and by Theodossiadis Marc.

Calypso had a shell and a skin infection from her entanglement ordeal. The good news is that she was not buoyant and had all of her flippers intact! She settled in well and spent most of her time resting at the bottom of her tank whilst we provided wound care and a bit of TLC.

After just short of a month at the Rescue Centre, Calypso’s infection cleared up and her shell healed nicely. She was released in front of a full boat of cheerers on and we have never released a turtle who dived down so fast. She was definitely ready to go home!
