Meet Stitch, Ghost Net Amputee
Stitch is a juvenile Olive Ridley turtle who was found at Lhaviyani atoll.

Status: Moved to Juvenile Naifaru 17 June 2018
Stitch was previously under the care of Naifaru Juvenile Rescue Centre. She was transferred to us to receive veterinary care. Unfortunately, she had a terrible injury to her left flipper and her neck – with an open wound to her esophagus. She underwent surgeries to amputate the flipper and also to close the wound on her neck. She has recently had all her stitches removed and has healed from the surgeries very well.
Stitch’s main problem now is a buoyancy issue: due to tears in her lungs, air is trapped under her shell causing her to be unable to dive. She is also receiving treatment for an eye infection, but she has been making it worse by rubbing it. We made her a special “party hat” to allow her eye to heal.
Stitch enjoys splashing around her tank and hiding under her cover when it is not feeding time.
In June 2018, Stitch was moved to Juvenile Naifaru Rescue Centre for continued recovery and to make room for new patients in need of veterinarian care.
