About ORP

Olive Ridley Project (ORP) is on a mission to protect sea turtles and their habitats through rescue and rehabilitation, scientific research, and education and outreach. At the core of our work is a passionate and dedicated team of scientists, conservationists, citizen scientists and volunteers. We pride ourselves in being able to collaborate with a wide range of diverse groups in order to reach our goal and fill data gaps in sea turtle conservation. The charity is at the forefront of sea turtle conservation, influencing local policy makers, fishing communities and collaborating with research institutes. We currently have bases in Maldives, Oman, Kenya, Pakistan and Seychelles.

About The Position

ORP is a fast growing charity with big ambitions and we are looking for an enthusiastic, organised and efficient database administrator to join our team to support the senior management team in the maintenance and administration of the Charity’s databases and raw data.

Responsibilities will include but are not limited to:

  • Develop, monitor and maintain The Charity’s databases
  • Create data storage and retrieval systems, troubleshoot database issues, and implement database recovery procedures and safety protocols
  • Develop procedures and perform regular audits to ensure data integrity, quality and availability
  • Help build & revise the structure of the databases
  • Consolidate the existing databases and entries
  • Maintain database backup and recovery infrastructure
  • Assist with data processing when required


The successful candidate will possess the following qualifications, experience, and skills:

  • Minimum bachelor’s degree in a relevant field (Natural Sciences, Information Technology, Data Management etc.)
  • Previous experience in database management
  • Proven experience in recording scientific data
  • Fluent in spoken and written English
  • Excellent time management and organisational skills
  • Strong written communication and report writing skills
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team
  • Flexibility and ability to learn quickly


  • Master Degree or PhD in a relevant field
  • Previous experience working with and/or managing relational databases
  • Proficiency in data manipulation languages, including MS SQL, Oracle Database
  • Database management experience
  • Proficiency in a well-established coding language
  • Previous experience analysing large dataset
  • Published scientific research
  • Passion for ocean conversation and/or sea turtles
