Taloola’s humeral bone was exposed and her flipper missing when she arrived at the Rescue Centre. We performed surgery to remove the rest of the bone. She recovered well and was both eating and diving.

However, we diagnosed her with a shoulder joint infection. We cultured the bacteria to ensure she received the most effective antibiotic and also flushed out the infected joint.

After that we saw good improvement and she started using her flipper normally. She remained on antibiotics for a while. Before clearing her for release, we repeated the ultrasound of her shoulder and took another sample to ensure there was no more bacteria.
