Ali Mwalimu Mkasha, a Kenyan resident, studied and grew up in the port town of Shimoni. After finishing high school, Ali joined Shimoni Turtle Watch (STW) – a non-profit organisation devoted to conserving and researching sea turtles in the Shimoni-Vanga seascape. Inspired by STW’s exemplary work in the field of environment conservation, Ali worked with their outreach team for a year and a half. During this time, he not only learned more about sea turtles, but also helped educate community members about the importance of protecting sea turtles

In February, Ali joined Olive Ridley Project as a Sea Turtle Monitoring Assistant. He is responsible for initiating and managing our sea turtle Photo-ID and monitoring programme in Shimoni, which will cover the entire area of Kisite-Mpunguti Marine Park and Reserve.
